Past few months has been out-rightly disturbing. Every day you hear about rapes, physical or sexual assault of women, kids and men too ! Where are we heading is the question I keep asking to myself and others. Believe me I am extremely scared my 4 year old son, who is unaware that today he may be looked upon with lust instead of love and he is no more safe.
When I play with him, his innocence and naughty behaviour makes me wonder how can anyone on this earth feel so inhumanly towards a child. Even the offspring of the fiercest animal looks so vulnerable and needs protection. I ask myself are we failing as parents, teachers and society in the up bringing of our kids who grow up to become a emotionless and heartless beast. The beast who will hunt even if it is not hungry. What is shocking is that 50% of the time it is the juvenile and more disturbing that it is a known person. More that tough law we need is stronger parental and educational guidance. We need to educate our teenagers that an act of force will not give pleasure. We are society and we need to act rather than expect others to protect us.
Media- Boon or Curse I really don't known has started pointing out this more things openly now. I am sure these crimes existed earlier as well but if media is tracking down them then why such criminals are not scared of doing such heinous acts. Are they sure that nobody is going to punish them or they can evade the law? Almost half a dozen minor rape cases on twitter in a day (even more are not even shared by parents for the fear of getting tainted- as if the victim is at fault ).Recently heard of media shooting the assault of women on roads.Heart breaking !!!.
But let's stop reacting to such crimes ! It's high time for us to get proactive. We all know why and how a criminal selects its victim-one who is known, vulnerable and trusts him. So parents please accept the hard fact that your kin is not safe if you are not with him/her. Make them aware of difference between the touch of affection and assault. Teach them to react and not to succumb to such first time experience. Let them shout, express displeasure and share such incidents to you. Listen to them and don't take them for granted.Observe people who interact with them. Most importantly confront those who have made such an attempt. It kills their mindset right away.A branded mineral water says " Better safe than sorry".
Don't let our children suffer so much at such a tender age. This time is for them to run, play and explore the good side of the world and not to recover from the injuries of crimes they don't even understand.
